What to expect
New Romney Counselling Services offers a safe, confidential, non-judgemental and supportive environment, in which you are able to work with a Counsellor to explore issues and gain greater understanding and insight into thoughts, feelings and behaviours which will help you to develop the right solutions for you.
Some people come to Counselling with very specific issues they want to work with, others come because they feel stuck, or lonely or unhappy. Whatever the reason, we will be happy to work with you.
When you ring, you will be invited to an assessment. This is conducted in confidence and enables us to place you with a suitable Counsellor. At NRCS we generally offer a minimum of twelve, weekly sessions of fifty minutes. During your first session, your Counsellor will explain confidentiality and be able to answer any questions you may have about counselling.
“ I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become.”

What does the Counsellor do?
The Counsellor won’t tell you what to do or give advice – instead, he or she will listen, guide and support you as you explore issues. You determine the nature of the counselling and the Counsellor will work at your pace as you build a trusting, therapeutic relationship.
Counselling can seem quite daunting for some people, this is quite normal. Counsellors understand this and are trained to help you feel comfortable and safe to talk openly and express feelings and emotions if you want to. You won’t be judged or criticised and the process is very supportive.
